Kashmir might be the most misunderstood place in Pakistan.

With its war-stricken history and disputed land, most of it has stayed unexplored by the Pakistani masses. Tourism in this area of the country never saw a boom as the circumstances at the LOC Indian border were always volatile.

As much as this is factual truth and hurts to think about, the tourism in Kashmir is beginning to find its pace. This is mostly because of the beautiful scenic views of the area and the very humble people that make it hospitable for all.

Traveler trek went to Neelum Valley in Kashmir. We bring you a complete diary.

The journey started off from Muzaffarabad which is the capital of Azad Jammu & Kashmir. The hotels here are great and it is a well-developed city. We took the road to Neelum Valley from Muzaffarabad which takes about 3-4 hours.

It is not advised to travel here when it’s raining because there are many reported cases of landslides every year.

The road to Neelum Valley has the most beautiful scenery and you will even enjoy the road. Free of traffic horns, no traffic lights, and a glorious view! We stopped at Keran and trekked to the Upper Neelum ViewPoint from there. This place is very famous and a resort has also been made here now.

We really need to talk about the food here because it was SO good.

We ordered some chicken karahi and daal and it was the best daal I have ever had! I wonder if we were too tired, or if the amazing weather and place made the food delicious. Whatever it was, the food here is highly recommended as you will not get a lot of options.

We found the most amazing tour guide here who has been doing this all his life.

The guide helped us out with planning our tour in a better way. The people here are so kind and humble because they are still untouched by the world in general. These remote areas offer more peace and tranquil than any other crowded place.

People have found many ways to attract more tourists to their areas.

They earn most of their revenues from tourists and try their best to provide entertainment and fun. Among these ways, you will also find them keeping monkeys as pets. These monkeys are trained and they do ‘kartab’ as commanded by the owner. In return, you may give some money to the owner if you enjoyed the show.

Chai with a view!

Along the edge of the mountain, with a straight view of the flowing River Neelum underneath. This chai cup with the most amazing view will leave you breathless.

Kashmiris know how to make chicken karahi.

They know how to make daal.

They definitely know how to make the perfect karak chai as well!

The trek was one to remember forever because of the people we met, the scenery and the food. These are the only three things that can make or break a trip for you.

Upper Neelum valley checks all the right boxes!
